DevCamp: Learning Platform, Curriculum & Engineering Leadership

I founded DevCamp in 2016 and led its web and mobile applications, PaaS learning-management system and quality assurance. Bottega University acquired the platform in a $5M stock purchase in 2018. The work connects education-product development with curriculum, lead instruction and instructor-development responsibilities at Bottega.

jordanhudgens.com Portfolio summary · Oct 2026 record
DevCamp: education software and a 2018 stock acquisition. A summary of DevCamp’s learning-platform scope and its acquisition by Bottega University in a $5M stock purchase in 2018. The figure is not presented as cash proceeds.

What did DevCamp bring together?

DevCamp connected the software supporting learning with the technical instruction delivered through it. The platform scope included web and mobile applications, a PaaS learning-management system and quality assurance. My concurrent Bottega University responsibilities included curriculum and product leadership, lead instruction and instructor development, rather than software delivery alone.

The DevCamp and Bottega roles overlapped. The public timeline retains that overlap instead of presenting the two as sequential positions. The combined record demonstrates education-product and engineering responsibilities while preserving which organization and role each claim belongs to.

What did Jordan own as Founder & CTO?

I founded DevCamp in 2016 and led the platform’s web and mobile applications, PaaS learning-management system and quality assurance. My Founder & CTO tenure spanned April 2016–July 2024. At Bottega, I concurrently led curriculum and product, served as lead instructor and owned instructor-development responsibilities.

The Bottega team scope was up to 25 developers, instructors and support staff. That is a mixed-team leadership figure, not a separate claimed DevCamp engineering-team size. The instructor-development case study covers the required onboarding, observations, dry runs, formal clearance and ongoing training in detail.

How did software and instruction intersect?

The software remit covered learning-management infrastructure, web and mobile experiences and QA; the concurrent instructional remit covered curriculum, teaching and instructor development. The record connects building the platform with teaching the engineers who used it. It does not establish a specific platform conversion rate, retention change or feature-release cadence.

The teaching portfolio provides concrete public samples: responsive HTML/CSS, Ruby programming with object-oriented programming and testing, and a live React workshop with starter and completed code. These samples show the wider instructional record; they are not labeled as dated screenshots of DevCamp or as artifacts of a particular platform release.

What happened in the 2018 acquisition?

Bottega University acquired DevCamp in a $5M stock purchase in 2018. The figure describes stock consideration, not a cash payout or Jordan’s personal proceeds. The acquisition date is distinct from the full Founder & CTO tenure, which spanned April 2016–July 2024 in the approved record.

Curriculum reach and live teaching are separate measures in the broader teaching portfolio. Curricula have been used by 250,000+ learners across platforms and schools. Live instruction covered several thousand engineers across combined DevCamp/Bottega and Udemy work; neither measure is presented as a DevCamp-only active-user count.

Which skills does this project demonstrate?

  • Learning Management SystemsLed the PaaS learning-management system supporting the platform.
  • Software ArchitectureLed web and mobile applications and technical delivery.
  • Curriculum DevelopmentConcurrent Bottega work included curriculum leadership and lead instruction.
  • Quality AssuranceLed QA as part of DevCamp platform delivery.
  • Engineering ManagementHeld the Founder & CTO remit, April 2016–July 2024.

What does this case study not claim?

  • The $5M figure is a stock purchase, not cash proceeds.
  • The 2018 acquisition did not end the April 2016–July 2024 Founder & CTO tenure.
  • DevCamp and Bottega roles overlapped. Cross-platform curriculum and live-teaching reach are not DevCamp-only enrollment metrics.
